3 Ways to Be Productive During Your Commute
Many of us battle with a very long commute from our home to our places of work.
Often we're driving 30 minutes, 60 minutes, or even longer one way into our office.
It can be challenging to remain productive while we're stuck in traffic.
Well, today I want to give you three options so that you can stay sharp, that you can stay bright during your commute to work.
One: listen to audiobooks. Almost
Audiobooks
Every new publication comes out in an audio format, and listening to audiobooks can be a great way to digest a new book, especially if you have trouble fitting in reading later on in your day.
I think there's something special about listening to the actual author tell you his or her book, and most audiobooks are doing that now. They have the author actually narrate those words.
So make use of audiobooks as a part of your commute.
Number two: podcasts.
Now, podcasts come in
Podcasts
Every type of category, every type of subject matter that you can think of.
Maybe you want to listen to something related to your business or something related to your industry on your way into work.
Maybe on the way back, you want to listen to something related to your hobby or something that makes you laugh on the way back home.
Podcasts come in short formats and long formats, and again, any subject that you can think of.
So make use of listening to podcasts.
Number
Tough Conversations
Three is practicing a tough conversation or a presentation that you're going to give in the near future.
I know when I'm driving in my car, that's one of the few times that I'm truly alone and I'm not embarrassed to speak out loud and be vocal.
Driving in your car and practicing a speech or maybe a tough conversation with your boss or your team can be a great way to prepare yourself for that actual moment.
So continue to be productive in your commute to and from work.
Listen to an audiobook or listen to a podcast or listen to yourself as you prepare a tough conversation or a presentation that you're going to give in the near future.
It's very simple.
Shorten Your To-Do List with the 2 Minute Rule
How many tasks are on your to-do list right now?
How many things do you hope to accomplish by the end of this week?
I'm going to assume that your to-do list is probably quite long and quite lengthy regardless if you keep it on paper, in a to-do list app, or even if your to-do list is right up here in your mind.
Well, today I want to give you a tip on how you can shorten the length of your to-do list, and it's by doing more things in the moment.
It's called the 2-minute rule.
The 2-minute rule is developed by David Allen, the author of Getting Things Done, and here's how it works:
As you go about your day and you have new ideas, new tasks come to mind, ask yourself this question: Will that task take me less than 2 minutes to complete?
If you answer yes, do that task immediately. Get it over with. Accomplish it. Send that quick email. Make that very quick phone call. Whatever it is, do it right now.
Why?
The reason is that you'll be more efficient by doing that very short task in the moment than writing it down in your to-do list, adding it as one more thing to do in the future.
Even if you've captured it, even if you've written it down, chances are it's still going to weigh on your mind, and you may start to dread looking at your to-do list.
So if you are certain that that new task that pops into your mind will take less than 2 minutes, do it immediately.
The two-minute rule is very simple.
Are You Healthy or Just Fitbit Fit?
how much fit could a Fitbit fit if a Fitbit could bid fit activity trackers they've sold extremely well over the last few years and chances are you or someone you know owns a Fitbit a jawbone or perhaps an Apple watch these wearable devices contain special sensors that not only track our movements but other things such as heart rate calories burned or the amount of sleep we get each night using these wearable devices
Fitbits
can be a great motivational tool it can be exciting to see our progress and see if we can match the number of steps or exceed the number of steps the very next day however with having this information so readily available I'm worried that we're focusing too much attention on the quantity of our health and not on the quality of our health it's become far
How do you feel
too easy for us to look at a dashboard to determine if we slept well last night or if we had a high-intensity workout but how do you actually feel do you feel well rested do you feel good and exhausted after a workout activity trackers are increasingly encouraging us to ignore our feelings and instead rely on statistics alone I'm not saying you
Exercise
shouldn't use an activity tracker but if you do be careful with how much value you give the data exercise should be a stress reducer and a great opportunity to break away from our smartphones and other digital distractions exercise should be about freeing your mind and body not about analyzing pie charts and bar graphs so whether you use an

Clean Out Your Closet With Backward Hangers
closets for most of us it's a really good idea to go through our closets once a year to find out what are we not wearing anymore are there things that we can declutter and get rid of the problem is that most of us are a very poor judge of the last time we wore something I can
The Problem
go through here and start flipping through articles of clothing and say yeah I will that last spring and I'm pretty sure I wore that last winter however today I'm going to give you a sure fire method to know when you last wore something here's how it works first you take all
The Solution
of your articles of clothing and reverse the hanger I want you to purposely put your clothes on the hanger in the reverse way so that the pointy end is facing you now when I go to wear that piece of clothing when I return it to the rack either at the end of the day or after I've taken it from the laundry I'm gonna put it back on the correct way and over time I'm gonna see exactly which
Conclusion
pieces I've worn and which pieces I have not worn then if I sent a calendar reminder sometime in the future maybe six months maybe I'd do this every year I don't know exactly when I've worn something last and if too much time has expired for me at least usually Allah I'll donate it or at least get rid of it from my from my closet so there you go until next time it's very simple
Why You Should Paint A Chalkboard Wall
It may look like I'm standing in front of a large chalkboard, but I'm actually standing here in my kitchen, and what's behind me is an entire wall painted with chalkboard paint.
Now, when we first moved into this home, this had already been done, and now, since we've been living here, I don't think we will ever, ever go back. This is something we're certainly going to do in the next home that we move into.
Some of the advantages of having a wall that you can draw on, especially in a place like a kitchen or an eating area, somewhere where you're very frequently together as a family.
Here up top, you'll see we have the days of the week. My wife loves being able to have the weekly calendar out in front. We can see the activities, the events, places that we need to be.
Kids need some help with homework? Chalkboard wall—a great place to do some math and show some other examples. Kids just need a creative outlet? Let them draw on the walls. Chalkboard wall.
We struggled with a good place to have a shopping list where everyone can see it, everyone could contribute to it. Chalkboard wall—great solution.
So many different ways that you can make use of a chalkboard or a whiteboard wall. You can purchase paint at your local Home Depot or hardware store. Just another great, simple way to get those ideas out and see them in a very visible place.
Until next time, it's very simple.
Take a Nap Every Day to Increase Your Productivity
You should take a nap.
Countless studies show that taking a nap will maximize your productivity.
But if that's the case, why don't more of us take naps?
I think the answer is simple.
We tend to correlate how much stuff we can get done by how long we work.
So we tell ourselves to push through the drowsiness and remain awake all day long.
The problem with this logic is our output is directly related to how much energy we have.
And if we don't have enough energy then it doesn't really matter how long we work for.
Increase Physical Energy
So here are 3 reasons why you should take a nap each and every day.
Number 1: Increased physical energy.
It is well documented that workplace productivity takes a big dive in the early afternoon. Taking a quick 15-minute nap will do you much better than reaching for a cup of coffee or a sugary snack. And of course, it's much better for your diet.
Number 2: Memory boost.
Think of this as a power-up for your brain. A short nap helps clear your mind of distractions which in turn increases your ability to retain information. It will also increase your alertness for the rest of the day.
Number 3: Refocusing power.
Just like stepping away from your desk can give you a better perspective on your work, taking a short nap can have the same effect, but on a larger scale. Not only can it open your mind to new ideas, but it will also reduce your feelings of stress or being overwhelmed.
So don't feel guilty about taking a nap. It's one of the best things you can do for your productivity and it's very simple.
5 Best Books from the Last 5 Years
If reading is food for your brain, I hope you're hungry. So many great non-fiction books over the past 5 years. But if I had to whittle them down to just 5, here are my recommendations.
Daring Greatly
At number 5: Daring Greatly. Now this book deals with something that we don't usually attribute to success, and that's vulnerability. But Dr. Brown shows us why fear and uncertainty are actually the birthplace of innovation and creativity.
Essentialism
At number 4: Essentialism. The disciplined pursuit of less. Now this book tackles a problem that most of us can relate with: being busy without actually being productive. Now being an essentialist doesn't mean getting more things done. It's about getting the right things done. This book is a must read for anyone who wants to do less but better in all areas of their life.
The One Thing
Number 3: The One Thing - The surprisingly simple truth behind extraordinary results. This book highlights why it's so important that we focus our energy on what we really want. It's full of tools and questions that will help you cut through the clutter and determine what's most important to you. At number 2: The Power of Habit - Why we do what we do in life and business.
The Power of Habit
Our lives are made up of habits, both good and bad. But do you understand the anatomy of a habit? Do you understand how to change a negative one or start a good one? You need to pick up this book to learn how habits work. Not only to benefit yourself, but those you care most about.
Quiet
And lastly at number 1: Quiet - The power of introverts in a world that can't stop talking. This book tackles one of the most stereotyped and misunderstood people: introverts. And whether you are more introverted or extroverted you need to read this book to become a better manager, a better friend, a better parent or just an overall better person. Quiet will permanently change the way you think about introverts.

You Have Just as Much Time as Everyone Else
It's not difficult to waste time.
So I hope you're not wasting your time today.
I hope you're doing something important, something valuable with the 24 hours which you have been given.
What I love about the concept of time is that it's the great common denominator.
It puts us all on an equal playing field.
It doesn't matter how old you are.
It doesn't matter if you're male or female.
It doesn't matter what country you live in.
It doesn't matter what you do for a job.
You have just as much time today.
Neal has 24 hours, and I have 24 hours.
Your colleagues have just as much time as you.
Your competitors have just as much time as you do.
So what makes the difference?
How does someone succeed or how does someone get more out of their day than someone else?
Well, it comes down to making smart decisions, being wise with our time.
How can you do that?
Make a schedule.
Make a plan.
Parse out your to-do list between the things you should do and the things you could do.
Make sure that you're focused on the most important, the most value-added activities that you can today.
Think of great inventors of the past.
Think of Thomas Edison, Benjamin Franklin, the Wright brothers, Steve Jobs.
Did they have extra hours in their day that others did not?
Of course not.
They had just as many hours in the day.
They had just as many days in the week as you do.
So do something special with it.
Do something amazing with the time which you have been given.
It's very simple.
